A one-year-old boy died after being left in a hot car in South Carolina after his step-grandmother passed out while looking for keys inside her home, according to the boy’s mother.
Krista Nix shared that her stepmother had placed Joe Avery James Lockaby in her SUV and then went inside her Greenville County home to grab her keys on Thursday night.
But when the woman went inside her Greenville, South Carolina, home, the step-grandmother passed out.
When she came to, the grandmother was unsure of how long she had been passed out but found Joe breathing heavily when she went outside, according to WISN.
The woman ran cold water on Joe and called 911, but first responders pronounced the boy dead at the home at 5pm.
‘It’s a freak accident, his grandmother loved him, she loved all her grand-kids, I don’t have any anger towards her cause I know she would never do anything to hurt Joe,’ Nix said.
Cause of death has not been released yet.
The grandmother is being treated at Greenville Hospital, according to Nix.
Joe’s parents have released a GoFundMein hopes of aiding in the funeral and medical cost that they have.
It has made just under $1,000 of its $5,000 goal.
