It’s good to be Kanye West. The artist received rave reviews for his latest album, Ye, and his fashion label continues to challenge convention, thanks in part to his wife and muse Kim Kardashian West. Mrs. West might have returned to monochromatic form (in Dolce & Gabbana) for her KKW Beauty pop-up over the weekend, but earlier today on the streets of Calabasas, she ushered in a new, unexpectedly sultry side to Yeezy.
Last month, Kardashian West debuted unreleased Yeezy pieces guerrilla-style with her sister Kylie and also made her grand return to Paris Fashion Week, donning Virgil Abloh’s inaugural men’s collection for Louis Vuitton. Today’s ensemble had roots in both: the color theory approach to dress is classic Yeezy, while one could draw parallels between the utilitarian flourishes and the patch pockets from Abloh’s designs.
Kardashian West’s fitted zip-neck top resembled pieces she debuted in Tokyolast February, but with an elevated sheen. Bike shorts—another Kardashian West staple—amped up the effect, while slouchy over-the-knee boots grounded the ensemble with a dressier, leg-lengthening finish. A reflective fanny pack worn across Kardashian West’s bust was a clever alternative to going hands-free—the Yeezy way.
