Cat Returns To Owner After Going Missing For Thirteen Year And Dies Three Days Later

A delighted cat owner was stunned when her missing moggy was returned to her home after thirteen years – only for it to die three days later.

Abigail Smith had long given up hope of finding her beloved cat Willow who disappeared from her home in Cirencester, Gloucester in 2005.

But 13 years later Abigail spotted a Facebook post that a cat had fallen into a nearby pond.

Suddenly, it dawned on her it was her cat.

Vets then confirmed the good news that it was Willow, who had reached the age of 17 on her travels.

The family were hoping Willow would enjoy living out her days with them but her death came sooner than expected.

She was found last Wednesday and on Saturday she suffered a seizure and passed away in her sleep – happy and at home again.

Abigail, of Cirencester., Glos, said: ‘We couldn’t believe it. It broke my heart when she went missing.

‘When I saw the post on Facebook I took a screen shot and sent it to my mum and said how much it looked like Willow, thinking how crazy I was that it could have been her.

‘We assumed she had passed on. When we saw her, she hadn’t changed at all- her feet and head still seemed far to small for her body

‘She settled straight back into the family once home even though it had been so long. It was as if she had never left.

‘My boys adored her immediately.

‘Sidings said that she was keeping well that they were unsure as to whom had been feeding her over the years but she was well fed, she just needed some veterinary care.

‘I’m just grateful that I got to say I proper goodbye and that at least for the last few days of her life she knew that she was loved.

‘She had all her home comforts of fluffy blankets and plenty of fuss and attention. We gave her all the food she could possibly dream of.

‘She was spoilt and that is exactly what she deserved. I think she was content and knew she had come back home.’

Abigail bought Willow in August 2001 and hand-reared her from the age of six-weeks.
